Orphanage

At last, what many thought would be impossible has become possible; what many thought an illusion has become a reality and what many thought will take years to come by has taken few months to achieve. Isn’t that a miracle, or what else would you call it. It was a very beautiful but moving occasion during the dedication of the Diocesan Orphanage in Zonkwa.

A lot of dignitaries were present on that day, people from all works of life and from different places both with and outside of Zonkwa, constituted the marmot crowd that was present to witness the occasion. And it was particularly a joyous moment for Bishop Praises and the Clergy of the Diocese because this was a project so much prayer and labour has gone into.

Amongst the dignitaries present at the occasion was the Agwam Bajju, His Royal Highness, Mallam Nuhu Bature, who performed the tape cutting exercise and afterwards performed the dedication rites. Others present included Rt. Rev. Paul Zamani, the Bishop of Kwoi, he led the intercessions. Also present were Mr and Mrs Robert Stanley friends of the Diocese from the UK and Barr. J. D. Ephraim, the Chancellor of the Diocese. With this, the Orphanage home kicked off in full swing in its own building, having started a couple of weeks earlier in a temporary building within the premises of the Cathedral.

The children at the home are presently kept under the direct care of the following Rev. & Mrs. Chuks Nwakanma who have been attached as Chaplains to the orphanage and other care givers. These include Mrs. Angela Ndibe, Mrs. Helen Victor and Mrs. Christiana Iliya. There are volunteer staff who pop in every now and then, you too can be a part of what God is doing in our midst and in our lives. Just as one of our Mission Partners, Mrs Ruth Mohammed came to spend all of her Christmas with the children, along with her son Charlie.

Mrs Ruth Mohammed who is now popularly known by the Children as “Mummy 1” left her home in another city and was in Zonkwa for 3 days and nights under the same roof with the children. She taught them how to make Christmas decorations and other crafts. What a beautiful Christmas the children had.

Listen to the Chaplains comment about this, "We have had so many visits at the home, but one that remains evergreen to us was that of Mrs. Ruth Mohammed from Bukuru, Jos. She actually came and spent her Christmas with the Children; from 24th to 27th December. It was a great moment for the children. They had lots of fun, Christmas gifts, food items and other materials, all courtesy of Aunty Ruth, whom we now call ‘Mummy One’. For us at the Orphanage home, she is a true messenger of Love".

I beseech you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God to present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, pleasing to God, which is your reasonable service.
